GROOMUNITY — Grooming Workshops and Championship in a Shelter Venue

Task

The task was to provide full technical production for the two-day GROOMUNITY professional grooming event, organised by BARBER PET and G-POINT, in a shelter venue located on level -2.

The first day focused on grooming workshops where attendees needed a clear view of detailed work regardless of their position in the room. The second day was structured as a grooming championship with multiple participants working simultaneously.

The technical setup also had to account for the limitations of an underground venue, including ceiling height, power resilience and reliable operation of video and network systems.

Technical solution

A 3.2 × 1.9 m LED screen was installed in the main event area. Its dimensions were selected specifically for the venue, as a 2 m high screen would not fit within the available ceiling height.

The event was covered with two cameras. One operated on a Steadicam with wireless video transmission, allowing the camera operator to move freely between work areas and capture detailed close-ups.

On the first day, close-up camera feeds were displayed on the main LED screen and four additional displays, allowing attendees throughout the room to clearly follow grooming techniques and fine details. The displays were also used for presentations and graphic content.

During the championship, some of the displays were repurposed as timers for different participant groups. Since the competition categories had different time limits, each screen displayed the relevant countdown for its group.

Hands-free microphones allowed instructors to speak while continuing their work, while handheld microphones were used by hosts, judges and for announcements.

The entire venue was covered by the sound system with additional speaker positions. Lighting served a more decorative role during the first day, while on the championship day part of the system was used as additional working light across the competition area.

A private online stream was provided via a closed link, and the event was recorded for subsequent delivery to the client.

Critical control and network equipment was backed up with CET crew UPS systems. The venue also provided generator backup, reducing the impact of external power interruptions on the event.

The technical crew consisted of a streaming director, video director, sound engineer and Steadicam operator.

Result

One technical system supported two different formats across the two-day event: detailed workshop demonstrations and a grooming championship with multiple participants working simultaneously.

The main LED screen and four additional displays provided clear close-up views throughout the venue. On the second day, some of the displays were used as dedicated timers for participant groups with different competition time limits.

Sound and lighting were adapted to the requirements of each day, while power and network redundancy reduced the risk of technical interruption.

Both event days ran as planned, with the complete recording delivered to the client afterwards.
